In India, a cow is considered to be the holiest animal. In ancient times the sages and the gurus used to domesticate cows in their ashramas. Maharishi Jabali handed over the sole responsibility of taking care of his cows to his disciple Satyakama. He asked him to feed those cows till their number is doubled. Traditionally, in India, we have given cows the status of our mother. It provides us with milk that is easy to digest. This milk supplies all the necessary nutrients to the body.

Cows have four legs and a long tail. She has two broad and beautiful eyes. Her color is either white or black or red or shades of red. We can see her grazing on the ground on the roads or on the farms.

In ancient times the houses were built with clay and mud. People used to smear it with cow dung. They also used cow dung as fuel. Nowadays cow dung is converted into bio-gas using a biogas plant. In rural areas, this gas is used as an alternative to traditional LPG gas. It is also a clear source of fuel. Also, it is a very cheap source of fuel. In rural India, cow dung is still used on a large scale for various purposes. It is also used as manure. The Nomura is used in many ayurvedic medicines. Bullocks are used for agricultural purposes.

In many Hindu families, cows are worshipped and given food every day. A cow is the best gift God has given us. It is supposed to be the most sacred animal according to Hindu tradition. So we must avoid killing them. A cow is also known as Kamdhenu.
