Essay On Red Fort Delhi

The Mughal emperors ruled India for almost 400 years. The Mughal dynasty prospered during the period from Emperor Akabar to Jahangir. Different forms of arts and artisans flourished during this course of time. Massive constructions were created in Delhi and Agra. The Taj Mahal of Agra and Red Fort of Delhi is the most famous and historical monuments among these.

The Red Fort of Delhi has situated on the western bank of the river Yamuna. It was built by Emperor Shahjahan in 1648 A.D. The fort is constructed entirely with red stones and hence it was named Red Fort. For security purposes, the Fort is enclosed by long, deep but narrow trenches on all sides.

At the entrance of the fort lies a Meena Bazar. We can see different kinds of decorative articles and crafts here. The fort has houses many beautiful and huge buildings like Diwan-E-Aam, Diwan-E-Khas. Vast planes were kept reserved in front of these vestibules. The Emperor used to conduct his royal court for the common people at Diwan-E-Aam. One can imagine the imposing structure of Diwan-E-Khas. This is where the precious Mayur Sinhasan was situated. Later, it was robbed by the Nadirshah of Iran.

The Emperor used to hold his special court in this majestic hall. The roof of the hall was very finely decorated. The Emperor used to stay in the palace housed within the fort along with his queens. This palace had been ornamented with exquisite carvings and was very finely decorated. A very wise arrangement of shallow water channels was made here. The walls were built entirely in white marble and were ornamented by precious and colorful stones. The Moti Masjid, constructed by Aurangzeb is also worth visiting. The famous and precious Kohinoor diamond was kept here. Today it is embellished in the throne of the Queen of Britain

The Shah Burj museum houses the royal belongings of the last Mughal Emperor, Bahadur Shah Jafar, and his queen. There is a huge collection of ancient coins, articles inscriptions which give us information and knowledge about that historic era. This is the place where the British conducted litigations against our freedom fighters and harassed them. Today, the tricolor, our National Flag is gracefully fluttering on the Red fort. Red Fort symbolizes our national pride and self-respect.
