Essay On Postman

We have to depend on various people to help us in our day-to-day activities, like the cleaner, milkman, the newspaper distributor, etc. The security guard guards our area for 24 hours; the policeman protects us against any mishap or robbery. In a similar way, a postman distributes letters, money orders, registered letters, and parcels to our houses.

Postman is an employee of the Post and Telegraph department. His job is very important but very tough. He has to work throughout the year without bothering about the seasons. Distributing the letters, telegraph, and registry is his main duty. The government provides him with a khaki uniform.

We keep on sending letters, greeting cards, and gifts to our dear friends and relatives on the occasions like Diwali, New Year, or birthdays. All these letters received from various parts of the country are collected at the main post office of the city. Then they are sorted out and are handed over to the postmen concerned. The postmen then distribute the letters to us. For this, they have to travel long distances.

Postmen working in rural areas have to cover long distances from village to village. There is a danger of being robbed. The condition of the roads is very poor. The Government should make special provisions for the safety of such postmen. Their salaries should be increased. Along with the regular uniform they should also be supplied with warm clothes, raincoats, and umbrellas. This would definitely improve their working capacity.

We eagerly wait for the postman on occasions like Diwali, New Year, birthdays, etc. He brings us good news as well as bad news. The postman remains an important figure even in today’s world of the internet and mobiles. He is the only medium of communication in rural areas. Our soldiers doing their duties at remote and distant places, look forward to his visit. He is of great service to society.
