Essay On Madhya Pradesh – The Heart Of India
The state of Madhya Pradesh was created on 1 November 1956. As it is the central region of India, it is also known as the Heart of India’ Bhopal is the capital city of Madhya Pradesh. Indore is the largest city in the state. After Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh is the second largest state in terms of area.
Madhya Pradesh stands fifth in terms of population after Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar and West Bengal. The state shares its borders with Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and Uttar Pradesh.
Madhya Pradesh comprises 51 districts, which are grouped into 10 divisions. As of 2013, the state has 51 district panchayats, 313 janpad panchayats and 23043 village panchayats. The municipalities in the state include 14 Nagar Nigams, 86 Nagar Palikas and 238 Nagar Panchayats.
Madhya Pradesh has a sub-tropical climate. It has a hot dry summer followed by monsoon from July to September. Winter in this state is fairly cool and dry. Crops like rice, wheat, soya bean, pulses and mustard are grown on a large scale. The major types of soils found in the state are black soil mainly in Malwa region, red and yellow soil in Baghelkhand region, alluvial soil in Northern Madhya Pradesh, laterite soil in highland areas and mixed soil in parts of Gwalior and Chambal division.
Madhya Pradesh has a good land and air transport facilities. An extensive rail network crosses throughout the state. Headquarter for West Central Railway Zone of Indian Railways is at Jabalpur. Madhya Pradesh has 20 major railway junctions. Buses and trains cover most of the state. Madhya Pradesh leads a Central Government assisted program to provide road networks to villages. Indore, Khajuraho, Bhopal, Gwalior and Jabalpur have domestic airports.
The population in Madhya Pradesh is a combination of traditional groups, castes, communities and tribes. The main tribal groups found here are Bhil, Korku, Bhadia and Gond. The population of Madhya Pradesh also includes local people and migrants from other states. The scheduled castes and scheduled tribes are important portion of the population of the state.
Several cities in Madhya Pradesh are known for their architecture and scenic beauty. United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization declared certain sites in Madhya Pradesh as World Heritage Sites. Some of the sites include Rock Shelters of Bhimbetka, Devi Jagadambi temple, Khajuraho Group of Monuments and Buddhist Monuments at Sanchi. Other architecturally and scenic sites include Dhar, Amarkantak, Bhopal, Gwalior, Chitrakuta, Indore, Berhampur, Omkareshwar, Ujjain and Maheshwar. However, as the state is geographically very large and its history is spread over centuries, it has developed a widespread image of tradition, culture heritage and architecture for the visitors.
