Essay On A Winter Day

Up in the hills warm clothes are worn throughout the year, more during the winter months than in the summer, because of the cold climate.

It was during the third week in December of 2004 that the weather changed and it became extremely cold. During the day while the sun shone many people and I too sat outside, fully covered with only the face open to the sun. A cold wind was blowing and that made me shiver

I sat in my corner and I watched people as they walked to the bus stop, not far away. As I gazed around, I heard strange noises as if someone was crying. People started gathering around one spot, and now I became curious to know what was happening. I left my sunny place and joined the small group at the bus stop. What I saw, brought tears to my eyes.

It was a beggar girl, of my age, who was crying bitterly. Beside her lay a skinny puppy. It had died of the cold and lack of food. The girl told me she had no parents or relatives and that the puppy was her only friend and companion. I tried to tell her that she could get another pup but she cried all the more. No one standing around tried to help her. I took her by the hand and made her sit in my sunny spot. Then I went home and told my mother about the poor girl. Mother gave me biscuits and a cup of tea for her.

Shiba drank the tea and ate the biscuits hungrily. We became friends from that day and very soon Shiba forgot about her puppy
