Set 1: Essay On My Favourite Hobby
My favourite hobby is stamp-collecting. I started this hobby many years ago. To-day I have a large collection of fifteen thousand stamps.
Stamp-collecting is an interesting and absorbing hobby. I can spend many hours lost in my hobby. I pester all my friends and relations to give me stamps. If I have friends who have the same hobby, I exchange stamps with them.
I spend my time very pleasantly in the company of my stamps. From stamps we can learn history and geography. Most nations print stamps to commemorate important historical events or historical personalities and great leaders. They also publish stamps of birds, flowers and animals which add to our knowledge of geography. It is a very interesting way of learning geography through stamps.
I have a pen-friend from Canada. She too is a big stamp collector. She sends me wonderful stamps of lots of foreign countries. I too send her lots in return.
I have many stamp albums which I preserve carefully. If I have leisure I never have a dull moment looking through my albums. I wish more people would take interest in this wonderful hobby.
Set 2: Essay On My Favourite Hobby
My hobby is what I do in my spare time. I make sure of having plenty of spare time on weekends, because then I can do what I like best, that is, stamp collecting.
I first got interested in postage stamps when a letter, addressed to my father, was given to me by the postman. A bright and colorful stamp of a bird on one corner of the envelope caught my eye.
When my father returned from office, I gave him the letter and asked him about the bird on the D stamp. He told me it was a parakeet and that it belonged to the parrot family. Father also told me that this kind of parakeet was found in New Zealand. He cut out the stamp and soaked it in a saucer of water. After sometime he removed the stamp easily from the paper and gave it to me. That is how I started my stamp collection.
Today, I have an exercise book for my collection. I have stamps of different kinds so I divided my book into sections and use headings such as: ANIMALS, BIRDS, FLOWERS, INSECTS, TREES and others.
My father brings me a lot of stamps from his office and on the weekends I spend my time cutting and separating the stamps, then drying them and finally putting them in their different sections. I also buy stamps with my pocket money.
By collecting stamps I learn about nature and different countries.

Hobby is something which we enjoy doing, we like indulging ourselves in the activity during our leisure or free time. We all have our likes and dislike. We enjoy doing something more than others. A hobby gives us pleasure for we do it, for the love of the work and not under compulsion to earn. Thus, it is more fulfilling and gives us more satisfaction and joy.
One of the favourite things that one enjoy doing is gardening. I like the joy of beholding a blooming garden, green lawn and greener plants at home. Therefore, it has become my hobby now.
I caught this habit of nurturing plants from my mother. Now with her help and my renewed interest we have managed to maintain a small garden in front of our porch. It has a green carpet of velvet grass and a small trimmed hedge growing around it.
We have also prepared flowerbeds in which we have planted a few rose bushes, lilies, sunflowers, mogra, China rose and colourful variety of seasonal flowers. We also have grown gladioli, orchids, chrysanthemums, germaniums, jasmines, ferns and crotons. Recently, bought Christmas tree.
Everyday after I return from my school and have my lunch, I rush to the garden to do a little digging and watering the plants. We also regularly add manure and other medicines for protection and better flowering. During autumn one has to clean the garden daily because of the number of dry leaves shed. Otherwise, I clean it only twice a week. Grass grows very quickly during the rainy seasons, so one has to mow it regularly.
Moreover, every day before going to school, I check the kind of flowers blooming and the number of buds ready to bloom. On birthdays and anniversaries, I sometimes make a bouquet from my garden as a present.
Now I am thinking to grow vegetables also in one corner of the garden. If I succeed, then we won’t have to buy vegetables and we can even distribute it among our neighbours and friends. At least the common ones can be grown which occupy less space and are eaten every other day.
Gardening is a good hobby. I really enjoy it. When others appreciate and admire our garden I feel very proud of my efforts. It is a great joy to behold the small garden in full bloom. It is not so expensive also and increases the beauty of my home. Gardening also keeps me fit and healthy. I really enjoy gardening.

My hobby is reading. I read story books, magazines, newspapers and any kind of material that I find interesting.
This hobby got started when I was a little boy. I had always wanted my parents to read fairy tales and other stories to me. Soon they got fed up and tired of having to read to me continually. So as soon as I could, I learned to read. I started with simple ABC books. Soon I could read simple fairy tales and other stories. Now I read just about anything that is available.
Reading enables me to learn about so many things that I would otherwise not know. I learned about how people lived in by gone days of magic and mystery. I learned about the wonders of the world, space travel, human achievements, gigantic whales, tiny viruses and other fascinating things of our world.
The wonderful thing about reading is that I do not have to learn things the hard way. For example, I do not have to catch a disease to know that it can kill me. I know the danger so I can avoid it. Also I do not have to go deep into the jungle to learn about the tiger. I can read all about it in a book.
