Games are an important means of entertainment. It makes us strong and healthy. In India, several indoor and outdoor games like hockey, football, volleyball, table tennis, Kabaddi, and chess are played. But cricket is the favorite game of India. The game was introduced to us by the British when they were ruling our country. Slowly it gained much popularity and now it is the favorite game of over 90 percent population.

Cricket matches are of two types, namely one-day matches and five days test matches. One-day matches are of limited overs. The result can be known on the same day, whereas a five-day match does not have a definite number of overs and lasts till all the players of the team are caught. Cricket is very popular in India, Pakistan, England, West Indies, Sri Lanka, South Africa, and New Zealand. World cup tournaments of cricket are held every four years.

Each team has eleven players with two umpires to give decisions. The game requires large, clean ground. Tree stumps are placed on each of the pitches and they are 22 meters apart. The game requires a bat and a ball. The captain winning the toss decides whether to bat or bowl. Every over has six balls. If three wickets are taken in a succession, it is called a hattrick.

The batsmen can hit sixes or fours or they can score single runs. If it is a one-day match, after fifty overs the opposite team bats while the former bowls. The number of runs is counted and the opposite team has to make at least one run more than its opponent has made. If the batsman is caught, next player comes in the ground, and likewise, the game continues. The players need to be physically fit, alert, cautious and swift.

One-day matches are more famous these days. Now even 20 overs matches are conducted and they are slowly gaining popularity. Indian team won the first 20 overs world cup last year.
