Prize distribution function is one of the most important occasions in the history of a school. We celebrated the prize distribution function of our school on 22nd February this year. The preparations started many days in advance. The complete school building was whitewashed and then it was decorated with charts, maps and mottoes. The whole surrounding area was cleaned thoroughly. Great preparations were made and a nice programme was chalked out.

A big stage was erected and the chairs for the guests and the teachers were placed on it. A big table was also arranged to keep the prizes. The students were to sit on the carpets spread on the ground. All the parents were invited to the function. The Education Minister of Delhi was the chief guest.

The chief guest arrived on time at 4 p.m. and he was received by the Principal and garlanded by the reception committee of our school. The school scouts gave him a guard of honour.

The function began with the singing of the school prayer. The play Julius Caesar was staged by the senior boys and girls. Next item was a duet song by two students whose sang beautifully. Everyone praised this song sung by 4th standard boys. Then the students performed aerobics which won the hearts of all the persons present for the programme.

The Principal read the Annual Report of the school. Then the chief guest was requested to give away the prizes. It took one and half hours to complete the distribution of prizes. This was followed by a short speech by the chief guest. The chief guest appreciated the school discipline and the academic performance. He congratulated the winners and also encouraged the Principal, staff members and students to continue their efforts towards betterment in all fields. The function came to an end with the singing of the National Anthem. The Principal thanked the chief guest and then refreshments were served.

Prize distribution is one of the important functions of a school. It is a memorable event of the institution. It is held generally a few days before the examinations and marks the end of the academic year.
The function in our school was held in the first week of July. It was held in the school hall. The director of education was invited to preside over the function.

The rooms were whitewashed and cleaned. The school compound was decorated with flower pots and banners. Maps, pictures and paintings were hung on the walls Chairs were arranged for the visitors. The stage was beautifully decorated. Prizes were arranged neatly on separate table. The prizewinners sat near the stage.

The chief guest arrived exactly on time. He was received by the principal and other members of the staff at the gate. The school band played the national anthem. The scouts gave him a guard of honour. He was taken to the hall by the principal and members of the committee.

A song preceded the function. It was followed by a short drama. The principal read the annual report about the progress, examination results and extra-curricular activities of the school.

The chief guest gave away the prizes. I also won a prize for standing first in my class. After that the chief guest delivered a short speech. He praised the school for its all-round progress and talked to the students about their duties and responsibilities.

The principal thanked the chief guest and the function came to an end amidst cheers.
