Essay On Who Created Mickey Mouse?

Mickey Mouse is very well known name among us. It is one of the most popular and funny animal cartoon characters in the history of cartoons. The character of Mickey Mouse has amused us since years through cartoon films. Today, Mickey Mouse has become one of the most familiar cartoon characters in the world. The maker of the character too became equally famous. Do you know who the creator of this wonderful character was?

Mickey Mouse was the creation of an American film producer named Walter Elivas Disney. On 5th December 1905, Walter Disney was born in Chicago. In 1919, he started producing small advertising films. Slowly he shifted his focus towards animation. His fondness of making cartoon films led to the discovery of the character called ‘Mickey Mouse’.

Disney asked Ub Iwerks to start drawing up new character. Iwerks tried sketches of different animals, such as dogs and cats. None of these pleased Walter. A female cow and male horse were also rejected. Walter got the idea for Mickey Mouse

from a tame mouse at his desk in his studio in Kansas City. In 1925, Hugh Harman drew some sketches of mice around a photograph of Walter. These photographs inspired Ub Iwerks to create a new mouse character for Walter.

In the year 1928, Walter presented Mickey Mouse for the first time in his silent cartoon movie called “Plane Crazy’. In the following year, he made a film called “Steamboat Willie’ featuring Mickey Mouse. However, this film had a sound in it. The voice of Mickey in the films was the voice of Walter himself. Soon the character of Mickey Mouse gained popularity. Walter also won awards for creating this character.

Walter Disney produced animated films like ‘Snow White and Seven Dwarfs’, ‘Bambi’, ‘Lady and the Tramp’, ‘Cinderella’, ‘Fun and Fancy Free’, Dumbo’, ‘Song of the South’ and many more. He also made action films like ‘Davy Crocklet, King of the wild frontier’, ‘Robin Hood and his merrie men’, ‘Swiss family Robinson’, etc.

As an animator and businessperson, he was mainly known as a filmmaker and a popular showman. He was a pioneer in animation and theme park design. Besides Mickey Mouse, he and his staff created various imaginary cartoon characters like ‘Donald Duck’, ‘Goofy’ and ‘Pluto’. Walter Disney died on December 15, 1966. He left behind a vast inheritance that includes several animated feature films produced during his lifetime, the company, parks and animation studio.
