Medicines are also, one of the outcomes of scientific research. Modern medicines have successfully eradicated deadly diseases such as small pox. Numerous fatal diseases have been conquered through specific medicines. Epidermics, now are a thing of the part. There are far fewer deaths at the child level and people live much longer now than they did before, thanks to medical developments.

Travelling has now become much safer and faster. Science has caused the diminishing of distances reducing the huge earth into a small global village.

Today man can communicate with another in any far corner of the earth in a flash. He can himself reach any corner of the earth also within a few hours. Such are the wonders of the modern science.

Science has always helped in understanding and solving the mysteries of nature. Today, man is sailing in the vast and unexplored oceans of knowledge. He is ready to face any challenge. He is in search of fulfilling his quest for the truth. Science has made life easy, convenient, comfortable, better and more meaningful. It has made many dreams come true and has helped man to reach the moon and other planets.

Satellite communication has brought about a unique revolution in information technology. Fax, E-mail, video-conferencing, roaming mobile phones, etc. are very common. Information technology has entered into the era of internet and world wide web. Moreover, the discovery of atomic energy and its increasing use has been one of the greatest wonders of modern science. It has been as significant as the discovery of the wheel and fire in the primitive stage of human evolution.

Science in itself is neither good nor evil and neither, blessing nor a curse. Its use makes it good or bad. Science should be used as a benefit, as a means and a tool to improve the quality of life. The misuse and abuse of scientific inventions are bound to make life horrifying.

In the fields of nutrition, medicine, hygiene and surgery, the achievements of science have been equally excellent. Heart-transplantations and that of other organs are now very common. Many fatal diseases have been eradicated or are on the way of eradication.

Science has completely changed man’s outlook of life. Many superstitions and blind beliefs do not exist anymore. Remote satellite sensing helps us in knowing floods, earthquakes, droughts and other such natural calamities in advance. Moreover, cinema, television, video, music and cable network entertainment has been brought to our doorsteps and into our pockets.

These new generation robots are wonder machines that are invented due to scientific knowledge. They can think and possess sense and even feel. Science has harnessed the forces of nature. The river valleys are dammed up to arrest water and then to make it available for irrigation through the network of canals. The deserts are changed into fertile arable fields. The waterfalls made artificially are generating electricity for varied uses.

Train, ships, vehicles and aeroplanes are the gift of science. They have made transport and journey easy, quick and comfortable. Long journeys that used to take days and weeks can now be covered in very short periods of time.

Science has given us weapons for safety; television, radio and cinema for entertainment. It has controlled the most fatal diseases. So the wonders of science are uncountable. There is no sphere in life in which science has not brought a change. Today we have many things of which our ancestors had never dreamt.

Electric stoves cook our meal and X-rays tell us where a bullet is embedded in our body. Electric shocks are given to men of deranged brains. Radium is no less important than electricity. A tiny particle of it can drive our trains. It also provides a cure against deadly diseases, such as cancer. Exposure to its rays burns up the disease. Then atomic energy is another discovery of science. If put to constructive use it is a boon.

Science has given eyes to the blind and ears to the deaf. Science has made serious operations a reality. Transplantation of heart has become a possibility. Thus we see that science is a double-edged weapon. It is useful if we use it for our comfort and convenience.
